Indian Tennis

Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna need to gear up - and fast. Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have kept the flag flying for a long time now. Leander Paes has played out of his skin on many occasions to script unthinkable victories. But he seems to have realised that it is time for him to step back and let the young turks take over. Both Amritraj and Bopanna showed lot of promise in this tie. Even if they don't start playing in a Federeresque fashion tomorrow, they seem to have the wherewithal to pull off wins in the Davis Cup. Prakash has the peerless Vijay Amritraj to guide him and they should also try to learn as much from The Indian Express as they can.

Parallel Cinema

George's post on Rajkamal led me to this blog on Alternate movies.

Lot of interesting movies have found mention here.

Great.

A rating of 4.5 on 5.

Latin Dance Club

One of my friends has been attending dance classes at the Latin(o) Dance Club, conducted by Vijay Athma. Sirisha and I attended a dance show on Saturday at the Ganesh Kala Krida Mandir - part of the 5th anniversary celebrations of the club. My friend was very comfortable on stage and did his bit well but I sincerely feel anybody who can think of doing a Rumba to "Another Brick in the Wall' is really stretching the 'experimentation' bit to the limits of sanity.

Jude

A very disturbing movie.(Warning : Story follows...)

Christopher Eccleston plays Jude - a stonemason who wants to go to University to study. He is 'tricked' into marriage by the daughter of the local pig farmer, who leaves him within a few days of marriage. Jude moves on to the University to fall in love with his cousin Sue, played by Kate Winslet. Sue doesn't want to marry Jude because of propriety and all that; marries a much older teacher, who had motivated Jude to go to University.

James

RGV should be feted for his willingness to experiment with genre. James, as has been publicised by RGV himself and others associated with the movie, is a throwback to the good ole days of the Angry Young Man. The female lead is there for decorative purposes and the director Rohit Jugraj has not tried to hide this fact. The express objective of the movie is to showcase Mohit Ahlawat and his bod.The makers of the movie have met this objective.

Finally, 2-1 it was

England did not deserve to lose the series after the brilliant performances put in by the team throughout the series and the hard-work that had gone in, prior to this series. Australia probably did not deserve to lose the urn but definitely couldn't do enough to back Warne's efforts. So, their running it so close till the last day is a measure of their talent, heart and attitude and the fact that they lost is a reflection of their performances in this series.

Benaud's Spin on Cricket

This interview of Richie Benaud on Cricinfo speaks a lot about many things:

1. How is TV coverage of Cricket handled in England and Australia?

2. 'Protection' by Government in some cases is required and IMO is good.

3. The ECB might have jumped the gun in asking the Govt. to remove cricket from the Free-for-all TV. They might have been tempted to take this decision after seeing the craze this Ashes has generated. I'm not sure if it is the correct decision.
