1989!!

This is probably the first time I have blogged about Salman Khan. Suddenly I am beginning to feel that I have grown old. Salman Khan has turned 40!! Reading all those articles on the greatness of Sachin Tendulkar is drilling the fact into my mind - that those who grew up with SRT have also grown old. I have always considered 25 as a watershed year - for me, if a cricketer/tennis player could establish himself before he turned 25, he had 'made' it. 25 was also an important figure while playing cricket in school and a quarter century would bring as much delight as the 35th did to SRT.

Maine Pyar Kiya was another movie which I consider landmark - pre MPK or post MPK.

Rest in Peace

Bhanumathi - my favourite actress who died on Sunday. She was a strong and assertive person. A multi faceted artiste who could write, act and sing - the Gary Sobers of South Indian art world.

Kerry Packer - was instrumental in adding colour to cricket, organised some of the best match-ups ever in the World Series matches and helped the players get out of the clutches of greedy and selfish administrators.

Again

Pigeon couldn't get his century because he ran out of partners - again.

Decent

This is another brilliant article by Rohit Brijnath. He is one of the best sports writers in India.

'Bowled Shane!!

No matter what Arjuna Ranatunga says here, it is tough to dispute what 'Hollywood' says here and here.

Cricketsense

I still vividly remember one of the greatest ODIs ever played - the WC '99 Semi final played between South Africa and Australia. A couple of things that I always quote about that match:

Hansie Cronje was correct in sending Lance Klusener in as late as the 44th over or so. I remember Geoff Boycott criticising Cronje's decision on air during that match.

Selection Woes

I am talking of the Australian team here - Michael Clarke is in great form after a 200 in the Pura Cup and two good knocks in the ODIs against New Zealand but Symonds, Hodge and Hussey are not making it easy for the brightest rookie since Sarwan to come back to the team. But he belongs to New South Wales and it will not be easy to keep him out for long. More so, when he is seeking advice from the Waughs and acting on it.

Another one

With the other reputed news channels setting such high benchmarks, this was not very surprising. I see no reason why the cable channels should be more responsible than the rest of the 'news channels'.

The season has already begun

The general rule is that you don't 'predict' things in sport - especially in such sports where it is so easy to end up with egg on your face. But I am taking the risk and will be following the season here.

This is the first post. The Reinmaster has decided against resting during the break between seasons this time and has already started testing. Anyone who had doubts about his commitment to win his title back - please step aside.

He understands the pain

If this news was not amusing enough, this reaction was even more amusing.

Quote of the month:

Perhaps they do this to all the left-handed captains of India.

Perhaps.
